i was gonna buy one last week.. read reviews.. all were BAD!
there is ONE generic review.. that is good, and is reprinted on various sites. about getting a soldering iron for the tinkerer.. wat a load..
But the real reviews all stated not to use it for electronics.. but as for METAL WORK?? not sure what exactly that is.. its good.
I talked it over with a buddy and decided to hold out for a good deal on a butane torch
LISTEN TO ME! I'VE USED ALL THE IRONS ON THE MARKET.
Cold solder sucks. The way it works is that it arcs the solder, thus melting it on to the wire. That makes a cold solder because you need to heat the wire your soldering to have a proper solder.
Snap-on and Mac soldering Irons are great but replacement tips are expensive. Torch itself is $90. Tip is like $15. Limited Lifetime warranty. Seems worth it but beleive me it's not.
Best soldering iron I would buy right now (my mac one broke and can't find a mac dealer) is the one from Radio Shack thats like $20. Butane with the flint igniter on the cap.
Please learn from me!

Tell the Snap-On guy I'm not here!
I had to see for myself what this was like. I expected it to be a disappointment...and my expectations were met! (Now I'm confused...does that mean that I am not diasppointed? LOL!) Seriously, though..save your money - this is not a serious soldering iron. Luckily, I saved my receipt & will be taking this back to the Home Depot.
