Hi, i am about to install some electic fans in my truck. these are used but are quite large. one is a pusher and the other a dual puller. i need extra cooling as i have installed a 454 built motor. i have 1 battery to run all of my amps,electric fuel pump, ac and extra lights. Please help me so i do not burn down this cherry. this is not fuel injected. thank you all,al12an
i wouldnt use both the pusher and the puller fans, i would use the 2 dual puller fan if u have room. the 2 fans most likely flow at different rates so one would be working against the other...if u have 1 battery to run all of those things, then i'm wondering if the alternator is still stock? i would upgrade the alternator to keep up with the charging, but depending on the system u have depends on other electrical needs. i have a single pusher fan on my car cause i dont have room for a puller, its off a 3.1L V6 and is better than my stock mechanical fan on my 4.1L straight six....i amalso running all of my usual electrical and a 350Watt MTX class 2 amp with 2 10" JBL (100W RMS 400W peak) and i dont have any problems running everything at the same time (with the car on of course) i dont have the gain up all the way, its just a bit more than 3/4 on. What i would suggest though is that u get a temp gauge if u dont have one or a proper heat sensor switch...the switch is easy to install and costs about 50-60 bucks i'll turn the fan on and off at the specified heat ranges u set it at. whats the dual puller fan off of? most electric fan operated cars i find hardly have the fan turn on and once u've reached about 50 MPH u dont need the fan anyways (depending where u are in the states) i probably messed up somewhere with the info, but hopefully someone else has some info.
What size dual puller do you have??In any matter it should be sufficient enough
You don't want to install both due to the fact you will be restricting the puller from operating at 100%. Reason being, a pusher only works at about 80% of the fans capabilities, if you have a Jeg's or Summit Racing Catalogs look this up, it will show you, as you probably know, alot of the electrical fans are reversible, but if you compare specs,it will tell you approx. capabilities of fan used both ways. To give you a rough figure(not any exacts)
But you take a 15" single fan thats capable of 1800 CFM as a puller, and use it as a pusher, then its only capable of 1000CFM.
In explaining this, I also dealt with all this, I built a 91' Ranger with a hot 302, well, this was before the nice V6 to V* conversion kits, and the way it was mounted, I had about 3/4" between the pulleys and the radiator, so the only option was a pusher. It worked decent but would have been more efficient and provided better cooling if I could have used a puller.
Also, as placid warrior has mentioned, I personally would use a temp. sensored relay on this, they work very well and only are on when needed. If you wire the fan to the ignition, you don't have to worry about it, it is on with ignition, and no switches to worry about.

Also in reference to your electrical concerns, I don't know how much current pull you actually have vs. the alternator output, so thats kind of an open question.
