Here's a challenge for all installers, enthusiasts, and everyone else here.
I just got an '02 Sunfire GT. It has the Monsoon sound system with 8 speakers and an external amp. Amp is located in left side of trunk. This car also has the factory Content Theft Deterrent system, which according to other resources I've checked, can only be disarmed by using the factory transmitter or turning the ignition on.
Challenge 1: I have a Pioneer DEH-P4400 which I will be installing. My book says '02 Sunfires use the Metra 70-2003T data retention harness(where you stick the factory deck in the trunk), however the book doesn't mention the Monsoon system. Does anyone know if the Monsoon head unit hooks up the same way as the standard head unit? Also, I'd like to integrate the Monsoon amp into the system. Is there any way this can be done? It doesn't have to be an easy way.
Challenge 2: The car has retained accessory power. Since the factory head unit doesn't have a switched accessory wire, is this feature controlled entirely through the databus from the BCM, or is there a separate relay or control wire that I can tap into in order to make my aftermarket deck have RAP?
Challenge 3: How do I get the factory anti-theft to arm and disarm without using the factory transmitter, or activating the ignition?
If anyone knows anything about this, please reply. It'll give me added satisfaction and credibility with customers to do a complicated install like this, and it'll potentially be helpful to others here who have monsoon systems, RAP, or factory antitheft.
Thanks a million
Chris

As for the factory alarm. You can disarm it without the remote but to arm it you will need to use the factory transmitter. You can wire up your remote start directly to the transmitter and hide the transmitter under the dash. I know its not what you had in mind but it does work.
Sorry about this, I should have clarified it earlier. I'm putting an alarm in, not a remote start(probably going to be a Viper 600ESP). The factory alarm does not need bypassed for a remote start; it's called a "content theft alarm" or something like that, and is triggered by opening the door or trunk when the factory alarm is not disabled by using the transmitter. I'm not sure yet whether it's armed by the doors being locked and closed, or by the factory transmitter. In the second case, I could disregard the issue entirely.

well chris if you never ARM the factory alarm then you dont have to worry about DISARMING it as far a the monsoon system go i think you can use a PAC interface called a oem 1 you can find 1 at selectproducts.com good luck

about the factory alarm: I have yet to check if it arms when the doors are locked by something other than the transmitter(which would cause problems when the Viper locks the doors). As far as the system, I've found that Metra now makes a GM databus interface which not only eliminates the need to retain the factory radio in the trunk, but has a built in door chime speaker and supplies a switched power output. The part # on that is VT-GMR01. Will let everyone know more once I've used this.

thats sweet, i had a 00 gt and it was a hell of an install, there was nothing available, i had to move the monsoon head to the trunk. This was when there was that treat of airbags diploying when an aftermarket radio was installed. Good luck
