Then you don't need a cap or a new battery you need a new alternator.

I dont know if that answered the question though. I have the same question but i have a alternator that puts out 160amps. Do i even need to use the cap at all if i buy a yellow top?

No, it won't hurt your setup, but it will not help, either. You will be spending money in the wrong direction.

With that said, you have 225 amps of current draw, you need to upgrade to at least a 250 amp alternator, which will be more expensive than the battery and cap theory, but neither the battery or cap will "produce" more amperage, they only store, the only difference between a battery and a cap is, a cap will charge and discharge twice as fast, gives a little "bump" of juice when you need it, but in your case, you need a great big "BUMP". Get where I am coming from??

And once you upgrade your alternator, there will be no need for batteries and caps, just be sure to have a good battery under the hood and upgrade your factory wiring(alt. to battery / battery ground).

Like Chad said, no you don't need a cap with or without a yellow top, and the yellow top will do you no good without an alternator to supply it with the amount of power you are pulling.
