2002 Olds Alero will Remote Start 95% of the time. Next day it won's start even with the key. It does have passlock and have bypassed that all of the time, not just on remote start to see if that helps. It will work all day long. Then the next day, it doesn't work. I have to leave the key on for 45minutes or so for the theft light to go out. then it starts. What am I missing on the passlock. The installer says it is not the style that has the black bulb test wire. Is that where the problem is. Is he incorrect?
Are you using a " keyed " bypass module ? IF you are make sure that the key is seated properl an securely in the module. As you drive and the cabin temperature goes up the plastic and foam that surround those keyed bypass modules expand and the key eventually slides down out of the " sweet spot " on the module. If the anti theft light is on there are a couple of possiblities:
- The second or third ignition wires are not getting power to them, check for these wires
- The bulb test are not present in the Passlock II systems but check to see if the resistance is correct in the trim pot or resistors

If it does not start and the light stays on, you do not have the resistance right. it may be real close. Did you install the starter or did a shop? The test ligh bulb is for the older GMs. make sure you take the average from the ground and the key side of the Passlock. I can email you the wires to measure for the resistence when I get to the shop in the morning.

I run a shop and am dealing second hand from an installer that is truely troubled with this one. I am familiar with reading the resistance both directions and using the lower of the 2. He claims... definately within the 5%. It was 1.806 so he has 1.71 - 1.89 to play with. 1.85 was used. I just got done talking to the tech that went to repair it and found the original installer jumped an ignition wire to the electronic transmission wire that requires power like the ignitions. I think if we put the relays in it will resolve the problem. I never like those that jump wires and crack down when these things happen. It's amazing how much people think they "get away" with. It always bites you in the end.
