We're going on a road trip this summer and want to be able to use a tea kettle and other various electrical cooking devices by plugging into the accessory outlets of the minivan.

Problem is that all of the outlets use a shared Fuse. How do I go about upgrading the accessory wiring so that :

1. Each outlet is on its own fuse?

2. Each outlet has upgraded capacity other than just the current 10amp ? load limit.

You have to run separate power wire to the power source.

This mean changing to a bigger wire. The bigger the wire typically means you can carry more load. The more current the bigger the wire has to be.

I suggest running a power cable to the battery. Just like running a power cable for your stereo amps. It's not a difficult vehicle to feed an 8 gauge wire through to the firewall to get to the battery. Kettle, heated cooking devices are typically high current draw so it's best to tap the power right at the source. Further note, if you planning to run quite a bit of electrical device on the stock battery consider changing it to a DEEP CYCLE battery and keep the original one for back up. This way, over the long haul you would not damage the original battery should you happen to completely drain it out accidentally. It only takes a few time of a complete drain on the original battery and severe damage will occur to it. Just my 2 cent.

First, are you talking about 12V cig lighter outlets or 120V AC outlets?

Sorry if I got my words confused. I'm speaking of the 12v cig/accessory outlets.

Decided to do this on the Toyota Avalon instead, so this is what we did.

1. Ran a 12-guage wire, with inline fuse holder, through the existing hole through the firewall (on the passenger side).

2. Grounded to an existing ground point near the passenger side kick panel.

3. Bought a flush-mount 12v accessory outlet from a Boat Store (Marine grade, so this thing is solid).

4. Drilled a 1-1/8" hole through the passenger console side, installed the outlet.

5. Installed a 20-amp fuse and it works like a charm.
