I'm having one of these electrical problems that can made an alcoholic out of a baptist preacher.

I have a 1990 toyota celica  4 cyl. Ninty nine times out of a hundred it will crank fine. However that one time I least expect it, the d**n thing will not turn over.

When it fails to turn over, all other electrical works fine. Now heres the strange part!! I can push it off (manual tranny) and as soon as it cranks, I can turn it off, then turn the key and it will start up as if nothing is wrong.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi trd8, check the connections to the starter solenoid. Remove them, clean them, and reconnect them.  When and if it happens again, immediately check each of the connections with your meter. If all checks out okay electrically while it will not crank, it's likely the solenoid and/or starter is going out.

i've been a mechanic for 10 years and here is what i suggest. first clean the terminal like the 12 volt said but also check for any loose connections at the starter ,ground, battery posts ,etc. if none of this succeeds, then make sure that you don't have any corroded wires or connections., if this doesn't work then you'll need to take apart your selenoid and see if there are any bad parts. chances are that you need a new selenoid if cleaning and tightening the connections doesn't work.  other that that i could be devine intervention, but chances are i'ts the connections or the selenoid. goodluck
