How good are these Cold Soldering units being sold out there that uses 4 AA batteries? They are said to immediately get hot and then after it immediately turns cold as well. I am planning to get one to use for my first install which i am planning to do in the very near future. I just want to know if it's worth the money or I would just go for the old corded solders. I hope someone would give me an insight. Thanks

Don't waste your money.  I've heard nothing good about them.

It s ideal for the little tiny stuff they show on the tube....My mom got me one for christmas last year.....It NO GOOD for anything larger that say 3 hairs thickness.... For your soldering iron to use on your install....get a HOT one. A good electric one. Not the gas ones.....not hot enough, quick enough!! Im sure someone out there will tell me Im wrong....all I can say is, every install I do, all connections are soldered, I solder more than most.

its not a good idea to use those 'cold heat' ones on sensitive components, because it actually generates a current from one of its contacts to the other in order to heat up so quickly

My $18 plug in the wall solder is better than that. The mosquito wire cord is just a small nuisance. Once plug in and heated up. It works all day long.
