Hey all, im new to the 12 volt, wanted to say hi and ask a question

I currently have the stock alternator and a single optima yellow top battery in my 2000 chevy tahoe old body. I have a kicker SX1250.1 and a kicker SX700.4 that i plan to put in. What mods should a do to allow for power without dimming lights. Im thinking of a high amp alternator or a cap or another yellow top. Please help. thanks guys and gals.

I know what a cap is. im not a newbie to car audio, only to this forum. I already have a small system, but im going bigger and I need to know if i will need to upgrade my alternator or add another battery.  the sx1250.1 puts out about 1465 watts and the sx700.4 is over 700 watts. so with over 2200 watts, a cap will only do small help.

Go with the high output alternator.

If you would search, you would find numerous topics exactly like this one where 95% of people said exactly what supradude did and you would even know why. You would also save space and bandwidth for this site. Not flaming on you, just that this exact question gets asked at least once a day.

ok, so like i though a cap would be no good. So im now left with the question of which alternator. Right now i believe that i have a 100 or 105 amp alternator stock not sure. Im guessing powermaster is a great brand for a new alternator right? so do i get a 140 amp or 200 amp. And should i still add an extra yellowtop for more power to draw from when the alt is at idle?

Go with the 200 amp or bigger, alternator. Check the specs on the alternator to see what the idle output is. Some have higher idle output capabilities although they cost more.

The addition of a yellow top will be useful if you listen to your radio with the vehicle off and during idle it will be able to take a beating and charge up unlike a standard battery that if discharged a number of times becomes bad. Batteries don't create "more power" only your alternator will do this.
