ok, i was reading back through the threads and saw a post that irked me.

autozone sucks. or the employees do.

lol.

i have a 93 pontiac sunbird daily driver. issues starting, battery wouldn't hold a charge. So. tested the alternator. disconnected the battery with the car on, car died. alternator bad. tried to start the car with fresh charge on it, no go.

took BOTH to AZ with me, and they told me BOTH tested GOOD. not jsut working, but high up good. instead of just saying 'f-it' and buying new, i tried to save money, went home and put the crap all back in. same problems. Disgusted, went back, tested again, still good. grr. bought new crap this time, took it home, haven't had a problem since.

moral of this story - F''' testing at the store. do the old school tests. they never lie.

Good point.  Just be careful on the new cars with removing the battery cable while car is running (it could possibly do some ECU damage).  I'd say take the DMM to the alt or battery to get the exact readout.

*nods* i'm an old car enthusiast... if its not half the age of me or better, i'm probably not interested. lol. Besides, like you said, these newer cars are more delicate than chinese pottery. i wager you could have that problem with one of these off road trucks they're building now. Can you imagine? 80 miles out and you can't reliably test your equipment because you need a 3 k computer on a roll around stand at the dealer to tell you that your alternator has gone bad? lol YAY for 'lemons' in engineering.

I hear ya.  If you disconnect the cable on a new Benz you will set of the alarm in Berlin (in the office or the Dymler CEO)  posted_image.  You probably have to take it to the dealership cause it probably will not start again (with all this, proximity card and the RF key sensor) without their blessing (and a few key codes and what not).

what if the battery dies! lol

"Gee Erik. Seems another dead battery over in the states" Says Jurgen.
"Ya Jurgen. Stupid american teens and their stereos. We should make sure only to answer the phone in german when he calls." Says erik.

saw something impressive on the tv the other day. BMW has this new deal where you pay spit for batteries to brakes for your BMW for 5 or so years of ownership. All free of charge.

... cept you have to take the car places and crap... just imagine the long distance phone calls... *Sighs* old school - good/cool/best/only school

hahah. it'll need onstar in order for the guy to call the ambulance for blood transfusions.   Lots of NCOs typing slower than normal due to sore fingertips. hahahaha.

i mean, i dig it, but at the same time? HOLY shhh. seriously. Before you know it cars will have tighter security than most banks. I can't wait till the computers in them start having split personalities.

lol. german engineering. wave of the future.

*grins* old school is the only school adrian. muscle car, antique car, you name it. i don't care that most rides on the strip get off faster now with an finely engineered automatic - whats teh point? lol. if you can't grind through the gears to get off the line, then don't get on the line.

... i don't know that i'll be grinding gears myself... i want to preserve my car, but... hell. you never know. i do konw this tho. my ENTIRE electrical schematic fits on a single peice of paper. and is somewhat legible, albeit in german. lol.
