I was wondering, how would you guys go about wiring two batteries in a car. If I would combine positives and negatives would that not give me 24 volts. I have never had more than one batterie in my car, I have to get another one and dont want to blow anything up. If anyone has any suggestions fell free to let me know.

it would give you 24 volts, and it would melt all your stuff up. it is recomended to get two batteries from the same company that are about the same age. other wise one of the batteries would be trying to charge the other and then back and forth untill you have 2 dead batteries. id say if you got a red and yellow top optima's or 2 blue tops, or 2 yellows you would be set

you will need to put pos to pos and neg to neg for 12vdc and double the amps. 2 800 cca batts = 1600 cca. you need to buy 2 brand new batts that are the same. same number of cca's and brand. I just replaced my batts. got 8 years out of them. now I have 2 new duralast 1000cca.

Just to chime in here. Your local autozone has battery that are as good or better than optimas for a good bit less. ------------- Nik

that's right I use the autozone duralast. The last 2 I had in for 8 years. I just replaced them a few weeks ago. 2 more duralasts. both my batts are under the hood. If you are going to put 1 in the trunk it needs to be a sealed batt. no fumes. duralast does not make a sealed batt as far as I know. ------------- Big Dave

thank a lot for your responses. I do have two new batteries that i bought from autozone. so your saying if i combine the (+s) and (-s) that would work and not burn up everything in the car. the current would not be to high?

yes that will work. your current will be double what the cca are. it will not burn up. they only put out what is drawn out of them.
