I have actually gotten many mixed messages about this & was just looking for some clarification.
For the Audiobahn 08 Series subs, should the boxes be ported or sealed * should I have 1cu foot boxes or 1.6, or 1.9 or 3?
As for my system... I already have all the parts but was just wondering if I have wasted my money & would like to know if this is a good setup as well as some advice on wiring & sub boxes.
I have 2 Audiobahn AW1008X 10" subs & one Audiobahn AW1208Q 12" sub. I am planning to mount the 12" regularly & mount the 2 10"s up-side-down (so the back of the sub is sticking out of te box).
I will be running the 2 10"s with an Audiobahn A18001D (1800 WATTS RMS) amp & the 12" wtih an Audiobahn A8001DQ (800 WATTS RMS) amp. I am planning to use 4 gauge wiring, is that good enough or should I go bigger?
Oh yeah, this is all going into a 2000 Prelude. I also wanted to know if there is an alternative to Dynomax (Hella expensive, costs about $50 a square foot here.) as the car rattles with the crap I've got in there now.
Open to all comments, advice or anything else you guys can offer. I know barely anything about car audio & even less about honda's. Give me a chevy & I'm happy - accept when I get to the gasspumps, which is why I now have a honda.

well if you have the tens or even the 12 ported to the car and not sealed by a box you will not get the sound you want. trust me have seen this done in that car. tell me how much room do you have what i suggest if this is a hatchback car is to make a sealed box where each speaker is sealed from the other. make the box have three wires comming out of the bottom of it so if the speaker were facing you the bottom would have the wires. finally set up the box with a 2 inch or three inch lift from the front of the box where you see the speakers . than what your going to do is take the box and speakers and fae than down towards the bottom of the car so now the difference between the space in front of the speakers is smaller than the difference between the back of the speakers so you joint will hit harder than its intended. email me from questions tell me how much room you have to work with hight width length etc and i will tell you sizes .

you will need 2 guage wire. when I was running one A18001DQ I used 2 guage and I just added a second A18001DQ and dropped the wiring to 1guage. Audiobahn suggest only using the 08s in a ported box. you can run sealed and they will still knock but the subs are designed for ported. a good idea may be to contact one of the Audiobahn techs and they will work with you on building a box and how to set everything up.

Alright as far as the power goes use a 0/1 gauge cable. As far as the enclosure The AW1208Q needs 3.0 cu/ft ported or 1.0 cu/ft sealed. The AW1008Q needs 1.9 cu/ft ported or 1.0 cu/ft sealed. Here are the box specs directly from Audiobahn. https://www.audiobahninc.com/tech/Audiobahn2002boxspecs.pdf When it comes to ported or sealed I have run both configurations with these subs and can tell you that the sealed will sill make your ears bleed and your chest hurt but is the best for everyday listening.

Also forgot about the dynamat. I like to use a product called Brown Bread https://www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html I have tried many of the sound deadeners out there and can tell you that this is the best one to use. It works just as good as its high priced competitors but at a price you can afford.

If i were you, i wouldnt run 2 different sized subs...it sounds like sh*t...just from personal experience...still with either 10"s or 12"s...

Well, I was thinking about that to, but I am planning to run the 2 10"s off of on of the amp's & set the amp to put out thumping bass & then set the amp that runs the 12" to rumbling bass, that way I get the best of both worlds. Is that a good idea? Plus, what would I have to dnomat in the car -- which parts?

I also wanted to know if I need to upgrade (or buy new) my battery or alternator... I also have 2 Audiobahn 1 Farad caps.

Don’t exactly understand what you’re talking about with the whole thumping bass and rumbling bass. But as far as power the power goes the A18001D needs 2 farads and the A8001DQ you will need 1 farad. But you will need a high out put alternator as well. When it comes to dynamat I like to use a product called Brown Bread https://www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html as I said before and the correct way to do it is to strip the whole car and cover the whole thing. For the who dynamating process... in order to do that to my trunk, are there any tools or glue I need or is brown break/dynomat self-adhesive? As I said, I don't know much about this & was planning to get it all installed but sorta blew all my money & went a tiny bit over budget on the equipment. It's just so hard to resist speneding that little extra bit, but when you do it on 1 sub, then the other sub, then the first amp & decide that one's not enough you have to buy another... then you go out & get chrome caps & decide to use leather instead of regular carpetting & have to spend even more for the materials... it sorta ads up. I'll have to get the rest together for the more wood, since my first box isn't gonna work & new wiring as well as for the brown bread, but, anyhow... about the who sound-dampening process, what do I need to get that done?

Really, what would you suggest I do instead? What would be a better setup? I can still get rid of what I have and get different stuff... so what should I do?

Its self adhesive I like to do it on warm to hot days and let the roll sit in the sun to heat up while im doing it. You need to get a roller and when you lay it down you roll it to press it into place. If you go to b-quiet they have instructions on how to do it. As far as the 12 and 2 10’ I would either go with all 10’s or all 12’s like TeeRizo said. If your looking for lots of bass go with 2 AW1208Q’s and 2 A18001D and I guarantee that it will make you cry. I have that set up and it actually sounds very clean but I have mine in a sealed enclosure.
