I have been interested in Mobile Electronics for quite some time and would love to make a career out of it. I'm currently 18 and in college so I have a little while to decide what I really want to do.

I recently started selling car audio in hopes that one day I will be able to own a store. If selling goes well I may see about renting some space this summer. I currently sell out of my house and advertise by word of mouth and business cards on cars at my college (CSUN). What would be some good ways to advertise and spread the word? Also what would be some good brands to carry? I carry quiet a few right now but I can't carry others because they require you to have an actual store. Thanks every one! I just would really like some advice so maybe one day I can do what I love.

Also I do have basic install experience but never really had the time and sometimes the knowledge to really get into that. I planned to take the MECP but I got busy with school and just did not have the time to give it my 100%. It's funny I know how to install but i'm still going to take my car to a shop :-)

Become a class A installer before thinking about being a business owner.  You have to know EVERYTHING.  And make sure you study economics and accounting in school...you also have to know as much as your accountant and distributors do!

And, as you may have already found out, any reputable brand will have specific requirements that you must meet.  But at least you're industrious.  You should be able to reach your goals in time.  You'll never get there, though, if you don't start installing.

No, I'm not an installer OR a business owner.  I'm just wise.  posted_image

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Thanks. I need a real job soon and I was thinking about trying to become an installer some where (Best Buy?).
