A few months ago I installed a Nakamichi CD-400 and some alpine s series speaker with 13 gauge IXOS wire in my car. It sounds really great but with one problem: when I crank it, with CD's I get hiss. I also get hiss with weak FM signals, but with good FM signals I get no hiss (also, FM is louder than CD's). I thought this was just the best my set up could do so I just drop the treble to get rid of the hiss, but then one day I put some nice headphones on my computer and realized it's not my sound system, it's the poor quality of the mp3's I'm burning. If I buy my songs from iTunes, then burn them, will the quality be better, or will it be the same bad quality of a typical 128kbps mp3? (I thought about maybe the headphones are bad, but no because they are recording studio quality, plus strong FM stations give 0 hiss so it must be the CD's and mp3 files themselves).
Thanks,
Richard

I would also encode your mp3's at more than 128kbps. I would go atleast 192kbps. I normally encode mine at 256 VBR with a VBR bit rate fluxuates and give you the best of quality with a smaller file size. What are you encoding them with?
