I need some help from someone that knows about electrical systems in Hondas. My 91 Honda accord will not turnover at all. I had to push start it (manual transmission) to get it home. I checked for 12 volts at the starter solenoid and did not have it with the key held in the start position. I jumped it out and it started to crank. I'm losing the 12 volts from the ignition (start wire) somewhere. At the key cylinder I get 12 volts with the key in the start position (BLACK/ white), so I have eliminated that as being the problem. I'm guessing it goes into the fuse box at the kick panel where there is a relay. Where is the relay located? The only reason I think there is a relay somewhere is because of the clutch safety switch. If anybody can tell me the route this wire takes, I would greatly appreciate it. I tried jumping out the clutch safety switch (paper clip) to no avail. I installed an alarm in this car sometime back, but I already eliminated the starter kill as well. It is sending 12 volts into the fuse box, but I don't know what color wire exits the box. I also can't seem to find the clutch interlock relay.

I also checked fuse #9 at the kick panel and it is still good. Is there another fuse I should check?

A starting system diagram would be extremely helpful, but for some reason it isn't showing up.

I've had this happen to a couple of Honda's and what we ended up doing was running a new 8 gauge wire to the starter solenoid from the ignition harness. This solved all problems and the car's are still operating without problems.

Thanks for sending the diagrams. It will probably be Tuesday before I can look at it. I live in Florida, so I'm not sure what the weather will be like tomorrow.

I thought about that too. I was thinking about just adding a relay and running existing wires to it. I'll just have the clutch safety switch wire send the ground to the coil. I'll take a look at it soon. It will be cheaper to do it that way if it turns out to be the starter relay (I have automotive relays on hand).

I finally had a chance to take a look at the car today. It turned out that I just needed to replace the little plastic piece that depresses the clutch interlock switch. I thought I already checked the switch, but I was wrong. There are two switches connected to the clutch pedal assembly. I was checking the lower one (the one you can actually see). Since the wires coming out of the harness didn’t match the diagram that fingaz22 sent me, I started looking a little harder. To my surprise, there is a smaller switch higher up with the right wires going to it. It was almost impossible to squeeze my fingers back there to put the plastic part in. I still don’t know why there are two switches though. I appreciate all the help.

That makes sense. I wish I would have thought of that earlier. That cruise control switch is in the same place as my Nissan's clutch interlock switch.

hey thats great you found the problem .having schematics takes all the guess work out of it like you have found out and it cuts the time in half. instead of chasing wires that you really cant see if ya didnt know where there. so how did the check of the system go? what ended you back to the switch? did you go to the relay and find there was no signal from the switch? well im glad i could help.

It has been a couple of days since you sent me the diagrams, so I looked over them so many times I remembered the wire colors. Fortunately, I noticed the wire colors weren't right before I got too involved. I appreciate the help....You definitely saved me hours of frustrating troubleshooting.
