I'm going to be doing some alarm and audio work on my car. I want to buy a good pair of ratcheting crimpers to put various ends on wiring (and use splice connectors).

1. Are Paladin Tools "Crimpall" ratcheting crimpers a good choice? (I've found them locally and am considering them.)

2. What brand of ends should I use (terminals & lugs) should I use? (I've seen some 3M at Wal-Mart. I don't recognize any of the brands in the auto stores.)

Oh, one more thing.

I bought a "Stripmaster" automatic wire stripper from Ideal (haven't opened it yet). Good choice?

never been a big fan of auto strippers...dont really believe that they save any time and have never seen one that hasnt worn out too soon...

cant beat the old Klein crimpers and strippers...nothing to go wrong...

i use there strippers as far as crimpers i use snap-on they dont ratchet but that would be a pain in the car i think.

I have used the auto-strippers and they dull quicker than you think if you use them alot. As far as crimppers no problem with them.

Kleins are the best. End connectors are made by a lot of companies, but if crimped properly, all should work fine.

A little tip on crimping, especially with larger awg. Crimp on the backside of the connector (if, as most connectors are merely rolled sheet metal) away from the split. It doesn't take but a split second to look inside of the connector, to make sure the "split" is facing away from you, with the "nipple" of your crimping tool opposite of the split. And make sure you are not crimping right on the edge of the metal tube. That will eventually cut the wire off after a couple of bends, or the inevitable bumps in the road.
