Disable Chevrolet Perimeter Lights?

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer LS without the Driver Information Center (DIC).

Is there a way to disable the Perimeter Lights feature.  This is the one that the headlights and reverse lights come on when the remote unlock button is pressed.  Since this "convenience feature" only functions at night, I didn't discover it until I had taken delivery of the vehicle.  I really hate this so-called "feature", and want to disable it.  If I wanted the lights on, I'd turn them on.  The dealer told me "Too bad, you're stuck with it.  We can't do anything because you have to buy the power seat package to get the DIC to disable it."  Is this really the case? 

I know the computer is using the photosensor in the middle of the dashboard to decide when it's dark enough to activate the lights.  If the programming cannot be changed, is there a method for tricking the computer into seeing the correct signal from the photocell?  Since most photocells generate a voltage, could a small battery be substituted in place of the cell to make the computer think that it's bright enough to not activate the lights? 

I've even considered enclosing the photocell in a sleeve with a super-bright white LED to trick it.  I would need to assemble a voltage regulator to power the LED or use one that is compatible with 12 volts.

I plan on installing a remote start, so I'd also like to prevent the headlights from coming on automatically when starting the vehicle at night.  Disabling the Perimeter Lights by fooling the sensor would also prevent the headlights from automatically activating.

Thanks for any input/advice/ideas/etc.  If there's a better (easier) method for disabling them, I'd be very interested.
