replace factory rocker switch with toggle

I'm looking to replace the factory rocker switches for my windows with some toggle switches, after building a new centre console, but all i can find are momentary on - off - momentary on in 20a/110v ac, what i am looking for is 20a/12v dc, can i safely use these 20a/110v ac switches in my vehicle, or should i jsut forget about it and keep looking for 20a/12v dc toggles.

you'll pay more for the ac switches because of the qulity is better(ruggered)for the ac curcuit. oposed too the dc switches.

but depending on the vechile and the setup of the power window curcuit most of them rest at ground so the other winows will operate from the master switch and using relays maybe needed. and will get labor intensive. do the reseach find out what and how your windows operate. good luck

so you're saying that the ac switch is better quality, would it be safe to assume that it is safer to use an ac switch on a dc application, than vice versa? i'm not too worried about the cost, they're only $3 each (for the ac switches)

i've already looked at my wiring for the windows, well i looked at the haynes manual for my vehicle, there are no relays to worry about so it should be straight forward to re-wire and even move the switches to a centre console

You are correct- you can use 110v switches in a 12v application, but not the other way around.  A 12v switch does not have the proper insulation for a high voltage use, but it's okay to use a high voltage switch in a low voltage situation.  It doesn't matter if it's for ac or dc- a switch is just a place where contacts are opened/closed.  As long as it meets or exceeds your voltage/current demands it'll be fine.

what kind of car are you doing this in? they wouldn't show the relay because there are none but it's how the switch works. let me know.
