Hi guys,
I don't know if there is a solution for this but I'll ask anyhow.
Since it has gotten colder, I have had 3 requests for help with their remote starters. I believe they are all the same problem. They have been trying to use their remotes but the engine will not start. The problem, I believe, is that as soon as the remote gets a tach signal, it shuts down the starter even though the engine has not started. It has fired once, but needs the starter to continue turning the engine over to get a true running signal (not just an occasional firing).
Is there a cure for this sensitity or should I tell them that the vehicle must be plugged in when the temp gets down to 20 degrees F or lower. It will also happen when it is warmer if the vehicle has not been started for a few days.
Thanks, Roy
Can you increase the starter crank time to about ¾ seconds or maybe even 1 second ?

Merry x-mas Jeff and all others,
Some remotes have an option to use a voltage signal instead of the tach signal. One installer says that this is a better way to overcome the symptoms I have described above.
Any opinions on that ???
Thanks, Roy
You can use the alternator sense wire ( opposed to the tach wire ) and it will do the same as the tach wire except not AC. If your system has a tachless mode ( I don't like these but use it if it works ) then use the tachless mode instead.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you too Roy !!

Why not AC ?
AC should not come on immedietly and the system only asks for at least (or about) 1/2volt more than bat voltage to determine that the engine is running.

Jeff,
Quote "Can you increase the starter crank time to about ¾ seconds or maybe even 1 second ?"
By that ,do you mean that the crank time will go that far longer than the 1st tach signal recieved by the unit?
On 2 of these I have the crank time set at 12 seconds but the starter cuts out as soon as it fires once. I would like it to crank until the engine is running for sure (a steady tach signal) if you know what I mean.
Roy
No I haven't tried that , Jeff.
On the viper system, if you choose to use voltage sensing, you just program it and don't hook up the tach wire to anything.
Roy
Try the inkjector with the tach wire and post your results. Usually this will work when the signal is not strong enuogh with the tach wire.
