Hi there

Iv got a 1999 VW Mk4 Golf 1.6S.

Recently, my driver side window mechanism was defective, so I gave it to my local garage to fix.  After seeing that the guy was constantly messing me around, I decided to take my car back and I fixed it myself.  However, the driver side central locking is no longer working, the interior light at the bottom-right hand side of the drivers door doesnt light up, the LED light next to the door pin doesnt work and my dome light doesnt light up when I open the drivers door.  I have no idea whether I did this or whether the guy in the garage did.

Can someone please advise what may be wrong and inform me how I can fix this.

Thanks

Shaz

If you removed the door latch assembly when you were realigning your window regulator, you plugged it back in, right?

The other thing, the microswitch inside the latch assembly may have failed. $2 part, PITA to change out.

Either way, from the sounds of it, all these issues all point at the latch assembly inside the door. Not fun to get at.

Hi

Yes, I have made sure I connected everything back as it was prior to me opening the door panel.

I am abit confused, because the wires for the LED lights all lead to the central locking control unit under the steering column.  Would I be right when I say this?  Also, forgive me if I sound silly, but what exactlty does a microswitch look like?

Thanks

Shaz

On the VW, the part of the door that latches onto the striker on the jamb, inside of that assembly, there is a pair of small momentary switches. The only way to really see them, and test them, is to get the latch assembly out of the door itself. YOu will need to remove the inner door panel, and then the inner door itself (the large galvanised piece held on with several 10mm bolts) You will now have access to the latch assembly.

This is not a fun job, and not for the feint of heart. You will be removing the window as well.

Thanks for the advice, I will try this...

I have already taken inner door panels and everything apart before and agree that this can be a very annoying job.

Thanks again
