Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the factory Headunit out of this car. It has a cassette with a screen(Information Display) on the side, I found a small screw under the stereo but removing it didn't help my cause. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Pictures would be even greater.
Thanks in advance.
I am going to try to answer this question as best as possible due the information provided. I am assuming that you have a factory nav. system installed in the car. If you do, the screw you found only needs to be loosened. Next you need to open the glove box and take the plastic trim pannel out/loose that is above the glove box, in the area of the latches (4 black screws, 3 in front and 1 on the left hand side near the flash light). Next look up and losen the 4 plastic triangular thumb nuts that hold the wood trim on. look closely, there are thumb screws for the small dash colored pannel just below the wood, these dont need to be removed however it will make it easier to get to the ones above. Carefully pull the wood trim out towards the passengers seat (sometimes it takes a little bit to get it unstuck). just make sure you have all the thumb nuts. This will allow you to gain access to the screw that holds the right side of the wood bezel on. Next lower your steering column all the way down and out. With a small flat screwdriver carefully pry out toward you the small wood trim just to the right of the nav. wood bezel. Now you will see the third screw holding the wood bezel on, remove that screw and the wood should slide off. Once that is off, look for the 4 screws holding the nav/ radio preset buttons in place. 2 at the top should be on the edges and 2 should be arround the radio buttons area. This should get you where you need to go. Finaly If you are looking for the radio unit. It is not there. The actual radio is mounted in the trunk. behind the amp.
Thanks for the quick reply. The unit is actually a cassette with a small screen, I believe it is navigation screen to the right of the the Tape deck not on the steering column side. The reason I'm taking the unit out is because the cassette is stuck inside and the unit displays that there is no tape inside, any thoughts? And does it sound like the unit you described to me, the car is coming back tomorrow I would hate to break or even scratch anything on a car like that. Thanks for the help.
Im sorry, I have no experience with removing cassettes to give you a fail proof answer. You could try to take the top cover apart and try to manualy move cassette drive, however you may cause further damage. You may also take it to a local repair facility and have them remove it. Good luck
