  I have a customer who wants to install a stereo in an older 1941 Ford which has a 6 Volt system in it, does anyone know where I can find a power converter to go from 6V to 12V directrly I would hate to put a step up converter and then hooking up a 12v power supply to it.

Try Jameco Electronics, or maybe Radio Shack.  You may end up building one though, but a simple boost converter with good filtering will do the trick, and you can do that with an SCR and a diode plus a cap and inductor, with a timing circuit for the SCR.
