The Galpin Ford Dealership offered Mike a ton of money to go work for them. And since Mike is the main man, MTV went with him too.

That is cold.  I did not know they could/would do something like that.  I wonder how much money he makes.

I'm sure he makes quite a bit. He is definately a hard working guy. And he'd be even more famous if Pimp my ride were a Discovery Channel Reality Series, I think. He could have been the jesse james of 12volt installing.

But yeah, thats a dream of mine, to be on the Discovery channel.

Gas puts out a much better product that WCC ever will. Although the mods are still way over the top, gas atleast puts effort into installing everything properly. Im still waiting for a news blurb of when a vehicle from WCC catches fire from faulty wiring. lol.

I've seen the show with the recent changes since this topic has come up, to see what it was all about, and am unimpressed.  I thought maybe it'd spark my creative interest.  It's the same old stuff- largest plasma that'll fit in the smallest car, couch in the back, TV for the dog, etc.  All just novelty stuff so you can say you have it.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinions, but I couldn't disagree more with the statement about him being the "Jesse James" of 12 volt.  That's just giving him too much credit.  He comes up with ideas, has the fabrication guys do the majority of the work, and connects some wires.  Even if all Jesse did was make custom headers for everything that left Monster Garage, he could have done all the fab work himself if he wanted.  Mike say's "I'm gonna put this state-of-the-art(insert nonsense here) in the trunk so that so-and-so can bla, bla, bla whenever he/she wants to."  Basically he just helps push the newest gear out on the market.  What Jesse did was start from scratch and make something out of nothing.

I also think comparing him to Reme is apples to oranges.  Reme and crew do good work, and come up with original, practical installs.  While Mike is a smart dude, and includes a small amount practicality in his installs, the majority is for the "bling" factor.

I just don't understand why some people view these guys like they're on a pedestal.  They're both good installers, but look at some of the work (of higher quality) that gets cranked out by some of the everyday guys on this forum- many who don't do this for a living.

Well, I hope you mean that in a good light, lol.  I have seen plenty of "people" on Discovery, usually on the forensic series, their body is being assembled back together to solve how they died and who killed them

I would like to personally get on mythbusters, not in front of the camera, but just to be there and watch in person, they happen to film right here in the Bay Area (California).  It is weird seeing them down at the Port of Oakland on the show, knowing I could drive over there and like, well, be there too.

I agree with that, seldom though, there are times where I see a product I would actually want to use in the setup of one of the cars I work on.  I am not into "raw" bling factor, but I do like to make it stand out a bit.  I have gotten some inspiration from the show whenever I catch an episode, I try not to watch too much MTV for my own reasons.

The Westcoast Customs crew had more personality and were more fun to watch that the new crew.  It reminded me of how people actually behave in a shop when working on a project and having fun while doing.

Reme has good help, too.  He usually does the boxes while Chet does everything else.  My point was that Reme's installs are more functional, and not just for the "wow" factor.

No, I was referring more to the "Jesse James" comment, I know you said he could have been 5150azn. I can list a handful of people that are much more qualified and don't sell out to a stupid show. Dave Rivera or Steve Brown to name a few.

There are many on this site that can do better "show car" installations that actually can still be driven and functional, Jeff and Rob to name a few here. I don't mean to leave anyone out but they are the most prevalent.

Take it however you would like, it is my opinion.

I just ask that you guys don't confuse the installer's work with the type of work that the customer(mtv) is requesting. If you've seen any of WCC's real installations you would know what I mean.

REMY hahaha now thats a guy I have no props for. doo dee doo lets put the same box into everything and call it custom. lol

Plus, Mike is the boss anyway. Bosses don't work. But if he did choose to work. He could do some pretty nifty work.

Let me add an LOL for the Fishman too.

What do you say we petition SEMA to have "THE BEST INSTALLER" competition instead of that team competition they got.

I don't know how feasible it would be to replace the installer challenge with the best installer. 1 person simly cannot build a show quality vehicle in 48 hours. The point of installer challenge is to allow people to see what and how installs can be done.

I agree with auex.  A car of that caliber cannot be done by one person in that short amount of time.  Plus, it shows how verstatile installers are: work with people you may have never met doing different tasks to achieve a common goal in the end.  How many of us know highly skilled installers that are horrible working with others?  I know I do.

they should do it like the biker build off. do it by the shop and give them a week or two and see what they can do. now pimp my ride is over the top but thats what mtv mants. the guys at WCC are pros, othjerwise people would not let them work on ther 100,000 plus cars they do good work, thats is why mtv picked them. i have seen some of there work and it is top notch

If yyou check WCC site they state that they just got a contract with the company that does american chopper and the such, so they will have a hot show. "we will stop making cars for tv"
