Hello.  I posted this message on my jeep forum, and it was recommended that I try here.  Right before christmas I installed a new stereo in my 93 zj and now I am getting a strange buzzing sound from my "illuminated entry relay". Has anyone ever heard of this? I am pretty sure that the problem is not related to the stereo installation but can not be positive. Following are the details.

-Replaced factory stereo with new sony. I used a new sony/chrysler harness which plugged in directly where the old one came out. So I did not really re-wire anything.
-Also switched out the speakers in the doors. Again no re-wire.
-Now when doors are closed and unlocked, buzzing sound occurs while interior dome lights are on. Once lights go out (30 seconds), buzzing stops.
-I used the stereo's factory ground, and tried grounding directly to the body. No change.
-I tracked the noise to the relay center directly behind the glove box.
-Noise is coming from what the service manual calls the illuminated entry relay. If I touch the relay, I can feel it vibrating while making the noise.
-I replaced the relay and the same thing occurs with the new relay.
-Everything seems to work as it should, except that the relay is making this noise whenever it is operable.

I believe that 93 was the only year with this specific relay. I did a search and was not able to find anything on this buzzing thing. If anybody can provide any insight into any of this, I would greatly appreciate it.

hummmmm

you know what..it's sounds like your relay getting AC current or feedback...tell me if you changed your battery or it was dead and you boost the car from other car...i did other car and it was same sound coming .fixed dome light module and had short diode inside.....

did you remove you deck and see what happen..i'm sure it won't help because it's not because of that..

Do you have your illuminated entry wire connected to your head unit? If so disconnect it. It should be an orange wire or orange with a white stripe. That wire is not needed.

I have a 95 ZJ, I to have that relay, I have never had a problem with any buzzing relay's except for when i turn my cb up to full power, the RF interferes with a relay I installed for a security light, it buzzes but thats from the RF signal bouncing back down from my antenna, I would go with "Sound Pressure's" reply with the illumination wire, I have a sony head unit in mine and i didnt hook that wire up because the sony doesnt need it only has one brightness level on the face..  simply try cutting the wire and taping both ends so prevent a short, and that should fix the problem, but its a odd problem, and a buzzing relay usually means something in that curcuit is shorted or wired wrong, but since you didnt do anything to the wiring in that curcuit except for a possable illumination wire off the new radio I would check there...  sorry I couldnt help more
