Ok i got a question for someone who knows about power cable sizes and such, so here goes!

I'm planning on getting a 1600 watt amp to power 4 subs in my jeep. But to buy the appropriate size power and ground wire (2 or 0 guage) would cost me and arm and a leg around here, so i picked up 2 wiring kits that had EVERYTHING included but came with 10 guage wire. my buddy who knows about steroeos and such told me that since i got two kits rated at 750w each it would actually be good for my amp because the strain is not all on the one wire. my question is will this setup work? i figure 2 x 750w = 1500w right? thats close enuf! lol but i guess thats why im asking u guys in the first place. any suggestions?

What kind of amp are you planning on getting?  If it is truely a 1600 watt RMS amp, I would not recomend using the two 10 guage wires -  I realize the kits that you purchased advertised power handling for 750 watts, but I personally would never use a 10 guage kit for anything more than 200 watts RMS.  A 2 guage wire should be sufficient for your application - 2 guage powerflow kits are available from around $100.  Dont skimp on your wires - especially if you are going to invest the $$ in a nice amp.  My advice - Return the 10 guage kits and do it right.

the amp is a legacy red series, not sure if its 1600w max or RMS, i'm guess'n max power since a 1600w RMS amp would be KICK ASS lol

i dont plan on sticking with the 10 guage kits as a permanent solution, i realize they are not the proper thing for what im tryin to do but the $$ is a little tight right now. in the future i'm planning on getting a 1 farad cap and i'll upgrade the wiring to go along with it. Remeber kids, getting laid off SUCKS! :P

the amp is 1600W peak peak peak...my bet is that the amp you have will NEVER see 1600W...well, mebbe if you ran 16V into it, it could produce 1600W for the 1/100 of a second before it blows...

I would abandon the dual 10 ga wiring situation as well...may as well do it properly the first time, so you dont have to redo it down the road...but 4 ga would be more than sufficient for that amp, so you wouldnt need anything bigger unless you are planning on running a second amp or better quality amps...

ultimately I would advise an amp upgrade to an amp that may legitimately put out almost that much power, and using 1/0 wire, which is cheap and easily attainable at any welding shop, unless you really want flashy wire, and then it could prove quite costly...

food for thought...
