TOKYO — Nissan Motor Co. has begun recalling more than 130,000 vehicles globally — including 80,000 in North America — because of an ignition key defect, a company official said Thursday.
Nissan is recalling 70,000 Murano SUVs and about 10,000 Maxima sedans in North America, spokeswoman Madoka Soma said.
In Japan, the company is recalling more than 50,962 SUVs — X-Trail and Murano — produced between August 2004 and July 2006.
The recalls involve only the cars with "intelligent keys.''
The lock device of the ignition key is not appropriately attached in some cars and it does not lock when the driver turns the engine off, according to Soma.
There have been no reports of injuries, according to a statement by the Transport Ministry.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.;)
Always nice to see companys recall vehicles BEFORE people are injured or killed.
Hopefully the American car companies are paying attention.
