I'm about to start installing my car stereo. The last one I installed, I too the easy way out and just used butt connectors. This time, I plan on taking my time and soldering the wires together. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my soldering.

I twisted the wires together:

I then used the sticky on soldering at the top of the page to practice a little.

The picture is a little misleading. The solder is shinier in person.

looks good, if i were to be really picky though id say to make sure that the solder flows into the insulation so that it does not corrosion on the exposed copper to form, I would then tape and heatshrink it, but looks pretty good as it is.

There is absolutely no need to attempt to get solder to go into/under the insulation, just heat shrink it and it'll be fine.

Looks good, shrink tube it or tape it up and call it a day..

thanks for the feedback. those pics were from pieces i used for testing. the next morning (after i posted the original post) i went ahead and wired the harness up. here's the final outcome all shrink wrapped.

Does anyone else think that, I know it was his example, he could've twisted the wires together a little more snuggly?

That's just me, though...

It is recomended to have a good mechanical connection before soldering, so yes, he could have twisted the wires together better, but it looks like a strong connection that should outlast the car.

Judging by the picture it's not a fine strand wire, so that's probably about the best he could do (without using pliers, etc.).
