i know some cars the lights are affected by the stereo. my 92 jetta has no radio in it and no brake lights.  does the wiring affect this? thanks

Check the grounding in the driver's kick. More than likely it is corroded/loose. Common issue on those things. Also, check headlight switch as well. Check the grounding points along the front of the car for all lighting, and at the battery.

Wonderful cars, terrible electrical systems.
