Range on the OEM remote FOB is not very good. I suggest getting a system that will piggyback the OEM system and use it's own remote FOB for better range. You can still retain the OEM remote FOB with this type of remote starter, it's just better as far as range and integration is concerned. The actual installation of this is easy because the Toyota doesn't have too many hard wiring bypasses. Also, I think the Toyota's OEM remote FOB doesn't work when the truck has started making keyless entry when remote started impossible.  If you have any further questions, please post them.

Hi,I think I'll go with the istall, what unit unit do you recommend to keep the factory and add remote start. Like something I can get off of ebay. Thanks in advance.

Go to eBay & type in " add on remote starter " & pick any one of the systems. When you deal with eBay your totally relying on brand names as opposed to customer support. Just be careful because most of the good brand names do not offer warranty to DIY installers & also if the item wasn't purchased from an authorized dealer. The prices are decent though.

Check out these two as well. These guys have a better feedback rating than the other guy does as well, DEI doesn't offer warranty to customers that install themselves. I'm not sure about Omega but the Crimestopper eBay member will have his own warranty through his company.

is there a way to extend the range with those units? what are my options in systems, thanks again

There's no way to extend the range on an OEM remote FOB. The add-on remote starters only piggyback the ignition wires and the door lock wires in order for the unit to operate. It doesn't actually transmit anything between the two units through the OEM remote FOB. Your options on these add-on units is to remote start the vehicle.... that's about it that I know of.

so what type of unit should I get to get more range, maybe a new fob, And to disarm the alarm and keyless entry? Can you show me one or 2 on ebay, thanks

Most if not all OEM remote FOB's have limited range in comparison to the aftermarket counterparts due to the fact that they do not have an external antenna. Most aftermarket remote starters are exactly like the add-ons as far as wiring hook ups go, except the door lock system. ( The add-on you have to hook up the unlock anyways to actuate the remote start sequence so your only 1 wire different in that respect ). There are many dealers, installers & members here in these forums that can sell you a decent unit. We have a unit that is very reasonably priced and comes with a 3 year warranty and we will give you installation support when you need it. If interested you can email me at techsupport@velocitymotorsport.com or you can go back to eBay and look at one here: https://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=remote+car+starter&cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&ht=1&from=R10&currdisp=2&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&srchdesc=y&BasicSearch=

Hi 98 Dodge. I recommend going with a add on unit like Jeff says. But you CAN extend the range on your factory remotes and you can make keyless entry work after the car is started. You have to find the stock keyless entry module in the car. It should usually be a green box in the Toyota that is right under the dash and easy to acsess (It should have a FCC tag ID # on it). It is a little tricky but if you have the time you can do it yourself. You have to find the wire (or wireS sometimes in the Toyota) that show 12 volts when car has ignition and turns off with car. The antenna is built in to this unit and will have to be extended with a wire (Prestige/Audiovox systems (AS-9075) already comes with the antenna). As for the hook up of the actual unit all you will need to find is the ignition wires (Directly under dash coming out of steering column), lock and unlock wires (find them off the keyless entry module), brake light wire (you will see the wire harness straight off the pedal itself, parking light wire (sometimes you dont even need to hook them up due to the factory remotes blinking the signals and the daytime running lights will stay on when the car is running), and the tach (Use 1 uncommon wire color coming out of 1 of the fuel injectors) For someone not experienced with 12 volt opperation this should take about 3 hours. USE A TEST LIGHT OR METER AND CHECK EVERY WIRE BEFORE HOOKING SOMETHING UP!!!! If inexperienced I recommend unhooking neg. batteryt cable

Do you know what the factory disarm is? thanks

Posted By: Velocity Motors
Date Posted: February 21, 2003 at 10:21 AM
According to all 4 of my installation programs there is no OEM fitted security system on the 2000 Tacoma ( at least not from the factory ) . This may have been added by the origninal owner or a special feature on this particular truck when ordered. Try to install the system without the OEM alarm disarm wire hooked up and see if the system engages. If it doesn't, then your set if it does, then get back to us and I'm sure you can find a similar set up from another Toyota that you can use for reference.

I'll look into that, what model do you recommend, also this has me kinda stuck, what do you recommend for a tacoma? https://www.geocities.com/silveraudioinc/power.jpg

you might have to paste in new window, thanks again

Most remote starters have 2 separate fuse power wires . The Tacoma only has one so I usually place both power wires on the one power wire from the harness. The CS423 is the recommended model that we carry.
