Hi,

Honda Civic DX 1992

On my shifter (auto), I have the following controls: P, R, N, D4, D3, 2, 1.

What exactly do the D4, D3, 2, 1 do?

I read the car manual book, but it's still not clear, and it's also not clear on which one is better for city driving and which is better for highway driving.

Thanks!

1st gear, second gear, 3rd gear, and then.......4th gear.

Thanks.

I kind of figured that but my main question is which is best for city and which is best for highway.

I read that leaving it in overdrive (which is D4?) wears the engine down a lot more than if you shift it between overdrive (highways) and non-overdrive (city).

Unless you are pulling a boat, D4 is where you need to leave it.
