Hey can anyone get me a password for Directechs? They recently changed their site and I can no longer log in. I work for a shop, but it is going to take us a few days to get a new password, and I can't wait that long. Thanks!

You have no choice but to wait for your rep to get you a new password. No one in their right mind would give theirs up!  Is there a specific vehicle you need tech on?

They have changed website to eliminate unauthorized people accessing their data base for information. It is supposed to be only for dealers who purchase their products and password is given on an individual basis and if your boss fires you, your password gets deleted off their system.

This is not new..... it has been this way for years.

Actually, the system is set on a IP address response system where you have to log in with a valid email address and password. When you do this the site authenticates your IP address to the one that is attached to your login information and if this changes you do not get in. Your boss/dealer will have to set up your account for you and this way there's no way you can give your log in information away unless your able to change your IP address along with the login information. This works on the same system that WireMagic uses.

BTW, this sucks when your have more than one computer system in your facility like we do. For each computer you have you need a different license key ( like Windows OS ).

I was just at a DEI seminar and the instructor said this website was new to the fact that each individual installer will get a separate log in versus the " one shop log in" that it used to have. This was only last month when I went to the meeting. You will have your email addy and a log in designated just to you so your accessing the data base can be monitored. So you are not getting info that isn't related to work, like if you do a side job and go to website. It will log when you visited, what info you requested.

They will be using IP authentication and will only have access from inside their store locations, not outside their buildings. Installers need to contact their corporate offices for assistance or to have their IP added to include their store.

^Thats a terrible idea. Its worse than credit card companies bc all you ahve to do is verify your info and able to log in. That whole update thingy will cause some trouble for some ppl, thats not even funny.

Can soemone tell me whats really updated on the directwire? I see pictures but I have seen those pictures in their database already previously. Did they use astrochart format/infos/pics?

Becareful when printing out pages with the new Directechs. I've heard a few vehicles print up to 14 pages !! What a waste of paper IMO.

Directechs has fixed the printing issues, they now have a 'quick print' option that prints just the information you want instead of the whole vehicle. They have also put the notes back into the printouts.

It seems that DEI must have been on to something when they claimed there was an excessive number of "unauthorized" users accessing their site. It appears they knocked out the people they no longer wanted to retain access to their site. From how I understand what they have implemented if you work for an independent shop the person who manages the directeddealers.com account has to enter your email address into their approved database. Once you are entered you can login and create your own personal password and use directechs. They will be monitoring the accounts and if they determine your individual account is being used in excess then they will shut you out but it does not lock you to a specific IP address allowing installers on the road access to the site. If you work for a big box store you can only access directechs if you access it from inside the store (using the store's IP address).

The12volt has a large amount of vehicle information and if that is not enough go to Audiovox's site and register for an account. You do not need to be a dealer and Audiovox's information is on par with DEI's, they have tech notes, diagrams, etc.

I am not a very big fan of DEI, but in no way is the Audiovox info even close to as good. Most of the audiovox info is outdated or just plain wrong in a lot of cases.

What is your site of choice? I usually look at Dei and compare it with our in-home site. I heard that bulldog security has a site also.

bulldog is a bootlegged of DEI's directechs. Can't really complain about free information.

Audiovox is great, very updated w/ quite a few 08 makes/models.

DEI of Canada (Astroflex) is telling the astro dealers that they will also have access to directechs. On the latest update on the astrochart the bypass modules that DEI uses, come up on the tech sheet, also with a direct link to the tech sight for the bypass install instructions.

The first thing I really like about DEI.posted_image

Actually, the more tech avail. the better. I used Audiovox & omega's "the disc", in addition to DT. As not always is DT the easiest spot to get a wire. Options make for quicker installs & more $$.

It is funny though, on most vehicles IGN, & ACC wires are reversed with DT & Audiovox....not that it makes much diff most the time, just interesting....LOL kind of like my wife.

I like the relay diagrams on The Disc, be nice if DT had em (like for adding 3rd IGN, or 2nd ACC, 5WI DL, + to -, low amperage to high)...cause it isn't always needed, but keeps the newer installer from asking "is this right" 5 million times....or when your hung over & can't think....or just when you can't think...or LOL

Do you have specific vehicles that you can show to prove this? I was not trying to say that Audiovox's site is perfect but their information is free, and all circuits need to be verified no matter where you get your information. I use directechs for 99.9% of my information but I have not seen Audiovox's information be that far off to say they are "outdated or just plain wrong in a lot of cases". If this is the truth I will stop recommending them!

Audiovox's site is great, although like every site, it does have its flaws.  It helped me on a nav. system on a 2007 mazda 3 where dei was not as much help. Also rostra has been good for locating vss wire and color, but was no help on this particular car.
