OK you electrical geniuos out there!!

When the key is in the run position (before a start), the insturment cluster and gages are supposed to get power and a "test" of all the lights right???-----NOT HAPPENING!! Was working before, then to intermittent, now dead--no light test, no tach (after start), no gas gage, no oil press indication,no charge condition, etc; runs and starts OK with no problems>>r/r ignition sw and lock cylinder, wiggled all the connectors I can see, took out and re-seated cluster assy--still no cigar!!!!!!Turn signal indicator lites, hazard flasher lites, hi beam indicator, cluster background lighting and rheostat.etc all work OK

Please advise as I have no wiring diagrams----where can I get some for this area??? Anyone have an idea of what and where I can ck, as it has to be a common cpnnection, as all of these get power in the run position, mpmentarily, except obvioulsy the eng gages

check these wires for power when the key is turned to the on position.

DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT TO CHECK THESE WIRES!

Ignition 12 volts DARK BLUE
Ignition #2 RED / WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Ignition #3 BLACK/ ORANGE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS (HEAT/AC)
Accessory BLACK/ WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS (WIPER/RADIO)
DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT TO CHECK THESE WIRES!

Tks for the quick reply; however---

AC, htr, wipers, and radio all work perfectly---its just the caution lites (momentary) on the cluster, and the Gages plus tach, that don't "powerup" when key is truned onand/or if engine is running----it used to though!!!!

Anythig else???????

im not sure if that car has one but i know that some older gm's have a switch mounted on top of the column. see if yours does and if so, check to see if it is loose.
the key cyl. is mechanical and it will turn gears that in turn will work some kind of switch. some times the ign. switch is on top of the column.

good luck

Tks---there is a wire harness male/female connection on top of the column-I'll ck it out and see what it does>>
