what diode handles automotive v

i do not know what kind/type of diode to use for this. i have used the 12v or more diodes radioshack sells with no success. i am doing a quad bulb mod for my brights.

Maybe you need relays instead of diodes. What are you hooking up?

im doing a quad bulb mod. low beams stay on with the high beams on. ecah side needs two diodes. one to keep the V from having the highs on with the low beams on. and the other diode to keep the voltage going to the low beams from the high beams from coming back into the low beam circuit and to keep the wire from frying so i do not need to replace my entire headlights wiring harness.

What did you plan on for switching them on and off? Will it be regular low beam and flick switch to incorporate high beams as well?
Let me know and I can try to figure it out during the day.

yes, low beams on, click, high beams and low beams on. this is the only safe way i can run HIDs in my low beam and hi beam housings.

hmm, no editing...... i want them to be like a lot of the imports and luxury cars i see running around. like my mother and fathers lexus.

I'll look into a schematic for that tomorrow which is today but after I wake up in 4 hours.

I have an idea for you to try. I thought about the easiest way to accomplish what you want to do. When you turn high beams on your low beams go on as well and when you turn off high beams it goes back to normal just low beams.
You will need two heavy duty relays rated at 30/40a,
which means 30 amp normally closed and 40 amp normally open.

Access the low beam 12v+ side wire and cut each left and right side. You will want to wire to switch side to one relay on pin 87a and the same on other relay. Then 30 to the light side of cut wire at each light. Next wire up both relays pin 85 to ground and both 86 tapped into high beam 12v+ wire when high beams are turned on. Then wire both relays pin 87 to a fused constant 12v+ source. This should light low beams with high beam click and not back feed back into switch.

test vehicle to see if one side of lamp is always grounded which normally it should be, make sure to unplug light to test so you don't get wrong side and blow fuses.

these sound like they are spst relays. there is a write up on how to do that with those kind of relays. but they need drl's enabled to work. and my drl's are disabled since i am running hids in all sockets. i did find something in a forum on disabling the quad beam to run hids in all 4 light housings. if i am thinking correctly, then that same diode would work for what i want to do. the diode is a 1N5404. i know nothing as far as the specs to this diode.
