Hey everyone.  I own a 97' Chevy Malibu.  We purchased it with an aftermarket cruise control on it.  It worked great for a couple years and just recently all together quit working.  I found out that it was a Rostra 250-1316 by the numbers on the control unit under the hood.  Just wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions on where to start.  I pulled the switch out of the column because it had a tendency to work loose so I thought maybe some wires got chaffed.  I found one that was rubbed through so I fixed it and it started working.  My wife took it to work the next day and it didn't work for her.  I don't know if it was just a coincidence that it started working or what.  Any help woudl be appreciated.  I'm heading on an 8 hour trip in a couple weeks and need my cruise.  Thanks guys.

Check the obvious first. Being that you found the problem with the control arm, then repaired it and it worked for a short period of time, I'd begin looking there. Sounds like the leads from the control arm are getting pinched the way they are currently routed. Let us know if you find a problem with it or not.

I did check all the wires on the swith and they didn't appear to be pinched anywhere along the steering column.  I actually unhooked it under the dash so I could pull the whole control arm out.  Would you happen to have a detailed wiring diagram of this system?  I have power up to the switch on one pin and the others get power when I use the various functions but I'm not sure which wire is supposed to supply power for each different function.

It is hard to say where there should be power on the switch because  the switch could be an open or closed circuit switch.  They operate differently. Sounds like there is a problem in the switch.  The best thing to do is goto rostra.com and click on cruise. click on your cruise model.  They will only offer 2 models.  250-1223 which is the fully electronic unit and the other is a vacuum unit.  You will know which you have depending on whether or not there is a vacuum line going to your unit.  Click on the correct unit and from there you can download a installation manual with some wiring diagrams of switches and some diag help.  If it is the switch, no big deal. Normally about  $30.
