OK I just signed up!
I have a couple questions about a 2000 GM cruise control module!
First, Will the rostra cruise control switch work with the Stock GM unit?
Second, I'm installing cruise in my 1986 Mazda RX7 swapped 2000 LS1/4L60E, from "all" I can find on this topic, It will not work with the "stock" mazda switch,being that the switch uses a low voltage( below 12v )signal and a seperate controller in the factory setup! They used LED lights as resisters internally in the switch! WHY? GO FIGURE! RETARDED IMO!
What I would like to do is use a rostra dash mounted switch in its place, but I cant find any more info on the GM controller or the rostra switch!
Does the GM controller use typical 12volt control minus the PCM connections? Or is it a low voltage type signal from the switch? My understanding of the schematics I read is its "not" low voltage, just a straight 12 volts! But I could be wrong!
By the way, FYI ALL mazda RX7's from 1986 to 1992 have a VSS, located in the mechanical speedo! Was reading on here before I signed up and saw that question, hope it helps!
However, It does not use the standard 4000 pulse per minute(like GM), I'm relatively sure the signal is at 4120 pulse per minute!

Guess its easy to work with stuff thats factory but not so easy when your dealing with different manufacturers.

Not everyone that reads a thread on this site is a member and able to post a reply, however with the attitude just expressed above, why would any of us want to bother? Perhaps a different approach will yield better results. Try it, you just might like it.

the12volt • Support the12volt.comI'll be nice and give an answer. Yes, a Rostra dash mount switch will control most GM cruise modules. The dash switch must be an open circuit type switch. I believe the 250-3593 is the part number you need. You could also use a 250-3742 import lever. It is designed to mount to the left side of the steering column shroud. The cruise modules use 12 volt switching for most of the input functions.
The difference in speed pulse between the GM and Mazda shouldn't be a major concern provided the pulse is strong enough for the cruise to use. PPM is short for Pulses Per Mile. The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) wire should be GREEN/ red if my memory on old Mazdas is correct. If the GM cruise module doesn't work then I would suggest using a Rostra electronic cruise control to go with the lever.
Not everyone on this site would agree with someone mixing apples and oranges in their car. But, that's just my opinion. I was young once, along time ago. I have learned that there are better ways of doing things and one of them is to always have an open mind and be nice and be patient when trying to learn.
