cruise in a street rod.

After 3 frustrating years I am giving up on my Audiovox cruise control. If I decided to look around for a unit to retrofit to my street rod out of a late model car, is there one model that is easier to retrofit than another?

Before you give up on the old on, make sure you have checked the items I mentioned in your other post. I have done thousands of cruise controls. If the problem is in the vehicle you will have the same issues with another unit. The cruise could be defective, but you need to be sure. Trying to retrofit a used cruise control from some other vehicle is not the answer. Buy an aftermarket cruise control from Rostra. You will need a speed sensor from them too, unless you are using a magnet kit now. They made your current unit. They now use an electronic unit. It can use your existing cruise switch too, provided it isn't at fault.

Looking at the age of this thread, I suspect you've solved your street rod cruise control dilemma. But if not, here's another solution. I'm not saying its the best, but it has and continues to work for me. My street rod is a late 40's car that has been completely modified; frame, running gear, steering, brakes, etc. It has mid-60's SBC with auto trans.

My solution: several years ago, I bought and installed a Sears "Auto Cruise" unit in a mid-70's Toyota. Before selling the car, I removed the speed control and installed it in the street rod. That was in 1995. The unit was made by Dana, uses a magnet on the driveshaft, has some adjust-ability and has worked flawlessly for me. These kits are still available on ebay although somewhat expensive.
