my first night here - what a great forum!
i have just bought a 2004 subaru forester and would like to make a change to the cruise control: i want it to always be ON.
the cruise control ON/OFF switch is on the dash, and controlling the CC is done via the standard type stick off the right side of the steering column, so working the CC is actually a two-handed process (the first time). i fear i must admit to a certain amount of laziness (sorry) and just do not like that i have to switch the CC ON before i can use it.
can i just dig into my dash, figure out the CC ON/OFF switch, and connect the pertinent wires, thereby bypassing the switch making the CC available at all times?
(fyi, i may install a toggle switch so that I can turn it OFF if ever desired.)
if my desire to remove a single button push from my driving experience is just plain nuts, just let me know and i will endeavor to quietly cope with my idiosyncratic behaviors; after all, i freely admit that i am constantly whacking at the buttons on my radio. :-)
btw, i did search the forums for such an issue but was unable to find any such posts; my apologies if i missed some.

Yeah, that's one reason I probably wouldn't buy one of those cars. I want to leave my cruise on all the time too.
I would say to first go to the back of the cruise switch, and see how it functions. One of the wires must throw out a ground or positive pulse when you push the button.
Take that wire and permanently make it the way it is when you push the button.....ground, positive, whatever it is. Then re-start the car and see if it works. It might not work, but that's the first thing to try.
