Has anybody heard of any cruise controls for the '03-04 vehicles that don't have a throttle cable anymore? I called Rostra and they didn't have an answer for me.

Thanks

Jon

What is the year, make and model of your vehicle?

all the new audi's are throttle drive with two opposed tps sensors for defaults if something goes wrong. There is 2 throttle plate motors built in to the throttle body housing, so you dont use a cable.

You can still run a normal criuse control, you just have to run the actuator cable into the drivers side if the car and attach it to the accelerator pedal with a bracket. either custom made by the company or make one yourself. Toyota and nissan and a few other brands in Austraqlia are going this way now too.

Many new cars are going this way..As mentioned pedal pull is an option if your up for it. Even then some cars have so much junk down by the pedal even that is not a viable option. Some new gms, saturns, etc don't have the normal setups we are used to.

All the new GM trucks we just order the handle themselves. Just plug the handle in and done with it the cruise works. 10 minutes and your cruise is in and working like factory..We also use the ford factory kits in some cases all you have to do is change out the steering wheel and be done with it..A lot of new cars are already setup for cruises wiring wise to some extent. Good luck,

Mike

hey nowyaknow, I have a 2003 base model silverado with a 4.3L, if I order the handle will the cruise work? I already put fog lights on it, that was easy. The truck has no keyless, and manual locks, also manual windows. Is it a gm factory handle or do you get the part somewhere else.

Order the GM handle, the cruise functions are already built in to the vehicle. Rostra knows about it and will sell you the handle. But it is more money than going to the dealer. I pay about $95 for them from my GM dealership. Just make sure you have the electronic throttle and not the cable and throttle body first.

DanDan pretty much covered it dead on before I got a chance to reply. I'm not sure where we source our handles from to be honest I tried checking before and couldn't find any company name on the box or instructions. Either way you should have no problem getting one from the dealer. If they quote a crazy price or something reply back and I may be able to pick one up for you. I know once none of our handles were the right ones and we had the dealership order one and then we put it on, but that was for an express van. Good luck,

Mike

My truck has a throttle cable, So what would be the best route to put cruise on it? 2003 Silverado, 4.3L V6, standard cab, auto trans, with AC.

To Badest Banshee: Find a Rostra dealer in your area and have them install it for you. If yu haven't done a cruise control before, I wouldn't suggest trying to do one without qualified supervision. They don't just drop in.
To Idogg200325: Check the cruise control switch for defects. The four wire plug is under the steering column behind the panel. There should be ignition power to it, a powered circuit when turning the switch on and off, a set wire and a resume wire. Those old trucks were also notorious for having defective brake switches. The brake switch performed two functions. First to turn on the brake lights the second to control a ground for the cruise to work. Ideally get schematics for the vehicle's cruise and you'll likely find the problem is with either the lever or the brake switch.

Only the V8 trucks are throttle by wire

The V6 still needs a cruise control plus the handle.
The SCS/Frigette cruise SCS4366 is a GM Plug in cruise that used in conjunction with the OE handle gives you cruise control.
The inexpensive option is the vacuum cruise and added handle to the column.

You could wire in a $25 cruise arm on the V8 pick ups and have cruise.
Great for low balling a fleet order.

the GM handle is $120
The 4366 is $190
