My S-10 factory cruise control has stopped operating at about 120,000 miles. I had just stopped at an intersection after a long drive down highway 395 from Bishop and the engine stalled. It took some time, 5-10 minutes, to get the engine to restart; I hobbled across the intersection and it stalled again. After putting more gasoline in the tank, (I wasn't anywhere near empty, by the way) I got the engine restarted and was able to limp home, the engine not delivering any power, actually decreasing in speed if I stepped too hard on the throttle. I noticed that I could not engage the cruise control even though I had been using it the last 250 miles. I could not think of any reason for the cruise to quit as a result of the fuel starvation problem. This fuel starvation problem gradually went away- by the time I got home (another hour), the engine seemed to be running ok.
Several months before, I had the fuel pump and filter replaced after experiencing a similar problem: engine stalled and wouldn't restart, so there may be a tie-in. At the time I wasn't having any trouble with the cruise control.
I'm new to the forum; I checked the seven pages of topics before coming to the forum with these questions. Is there a common problem, easily diagnosed, that I can repair myself? Is there a diagram available on the web that I can download to use in trouble shooting the problem? I appreciate the help anyone can provide. Thank you very much. Arlo

I'm not sure how the cruise control is set up on your vehicle, but I'd check for vacuum leaks.
