A few questions after reading many of the helpful posts on this subject:

  • Automatic transmission--ground out the tach wire or hook it up?  Which wire should I tap into on this model of car?
  • Speed sensing--magnets vs. vss, does it really matter?
  • If using vss, where is a convenient place to tap into this?  I do not know what the vss device looks like or what wire(s) are best to use.

I have purchased the Audiovox CCS-100 (ducking for cover), so my questions are asked with this particular cruise in mind.

Thanks,

Shane

ROSTRA (who makes Audiovox cruise) at www.rostra.com makes a vehicle specific Aveo Cruise Control.

To answer your questions:

U can ground Tach wire
I prefer (always) VSS as opposed to magnets
VSS wire ...see www.rostra.com

Thanks for the timely info and suggestions.

On the advice of mo12v, I have returned the Audiovox unit, and have ordered up the Rostra unit.  Can't wait 'till it arrives.

I'm hoping that the instructions are more detailed, and that the install will look more "factory".

Good choice getting the rostra aveo specific cruise. It should come with installation instructions (12 pages)for the aveo. Has a ton of pics as well. I've installed a handful of them and they aren't too bad. Requires a little bit of disassembly under the hood, (remove battery, etc nothing major) If your car is automatic, you have to hookup the neutral safety wire, and the VSS wire. If your car is manual you have to hookup the tach wire, and the VSS wire. They are located at the computer inside the vehicle @ the drivers underdash. Probably the one of the easiest to find VSS wires around. Here's a quick picture from the install instructions to give you an idea:

Good luck let me know if you run into any problems or have any questions.

Mo, Jeff, and Mike,

Thank you, thank you!!!

Just did the install tonight with a hand from my friend who wanted to see it happen, and I must say, this is the coolest mod I could have done to this car.  Took about two hours.

Straightforward, well-documented, and well-thought-out;  I would recommend the Rostra kit to anyone.  It is also the smoothest-engaging cruise I have ever felt, like butter.

The wife is very happy!!

Shane
