 First time poster here!! I have a MASS Electronics cruise control installed from dealer in my car. It has worked well for about 2 years, and now it's all screwed up!! Speeds are always 20 km/h less than the setpoint, ie when I set it @ 100 km/h, it locks in @ 80 km/h. Hitting resume kills the cruise setting, but tapping on the brake and then hitting resume works. If i touch the Decel. button, it drops 20 km/h, instead of 3km/h. Sofar I ruled out a vacuum leak, and the linkage to the throttle body is nice and taught. Also, I get alot of static in my AM radio when cruise is engaged.I also re-checked the ground, to no avail. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!

Sounds like throttle cable.  Make sure U have at least approx. 1/8 in. slack . No more than 5/16 in.
Does your Speedo read correctly?
Where is your Vacuum coming from?

Speedo reads bang on, when you mean throttle cable, are we talking the actual thottle from the gas pedal? Vacuum is generated by the intake on the throttle, which also feeds the climate control position selector. I can't actually measure the vacuum level, but when the engine runs, the hose won't fall off my fingertip when i hold it against it.

Depending on HOW it was Installed:

The Cruise Control Cable goes to Linkage.  There is where U want to check for slack and if it has a throttle adapter makes sure it is not loose.

UNLESS U have Cruise Control Cable running inside to Gas Pedal ( Pedal Pull) ..Then U want to check bracket holding cable and check slack
 Also I have found when the 4 cylynder Caviliers, Sunbirds, S-10s, etc. get LOTS of miles on them the Vacuum does not maitain a steady pull, so U have to put a Vacuum Resevoir on to hold manifold vacuum

Hello again! There is no cable that goes from the cruise module to the gas pedal. I t only goes from the module to the throttle pulley, alongside the gas pedal cable. When I spoke to a rep from Mass electronics on the phone (not very helpful btw) he refered to the unit as a "Micro Module". Does that ring a bell? (doesn't to me.) He said the unit needs very little vacuum to run. It is a 2 piece system, all the wiring from the stalk, brake switch, etc runs into a box in the engine compartment, which also houses the cable to the throttle pulley. I took a piece of the cover off and saw a row of dip switches in it. You can see the stalk switch @ www.mass.ca , but they don't picture the module. I find it rather odd that the unit acts the way it does, out of the blue. It actually happened while I was driving home from work. There is a shallow dip in the road, nothing bumpy, its a smooth transition I drove over for years, but that 1 time the cruise cut out and its been like this ever since!!

Thank You 12volt .com for all the help. My cruise is now fixed, turns out the module itself went bad. Sparkie came through and fixed me up. Turns out he works for the company that put it in, and it was repaired under warranty. It was just too bad that it took me 7 months to figure out who installed the unit, as it was dealer installed, and I moved quite a distance away from there.But I'm good to go now. If it wasn't for this forum, I still would have been cursing every drive to work!! Now my drive to work is good, gotta start working on repairing my carrer!!!
