2005 GM & Isuzu cruise control?

I hope most of youknow that Isuzu's SUVs are same as the GM, which brings me to my question.. it is a drive by wire system, no more linkage for throttle.  where do i get a cruise for that? rostra doesnt make one, i called.

What model are you trying to do? Normally for the newer GM's we order the handle (from Rostra/SCS/or the dealership) and wire it in. You have to go to the junction block at the bottom of the steering column the cruise handle wires will be coming in to one side, but NOT coming out of the other side.

the isuzu ascender does not have a linkage, the gas pedal does not physically pull a cable to dump fuel. it is electronically controlled, they call it "drive by wire" its a new thing for GM. The normal 250-1223 or whatever that part is, cannot be used, 
 
i need a cruise control that works electronically 100% no mechanical parts
 
there are normally 2 cruises, vacuum, and electronic
well now there is a 3rd, drive by wire
 
rostra does not make one, but i know someone does cuz they are installing them for my account, i wanna know who makes it

I understand the systems. This is nothing new for the 2005's it has been around a while already. What I'm saying is you don't need a full system all you need is a new OEM handle with the cruise buttons on it. Pop the handle on, and your done. The install takes 3 minutes in most cases. Some cases it simply plugs in, and others you have to wire it to the junction block like I explained earlier.

Regardless of the system if you want to install a universal unit that's fine just do a pedal pull configuration.

Mike, are saying that all you need to do is buy the cruise handle and wire it in and it's all done ? Do you know if this is true for the new 2005 Blazer's ? I have one coming in next week and have not installed a cruise into these newer GM's yet. If all it is is a plug and play........... well, that's some easy money !!

For the trailblazers, all you should need is the handle. You don't even have to wire it in it plugs right in. Normal blazers I'm not sure to be honest we don't get a lot of calls for them. For the Silverados/Sierras and Express Vans, all you normally need is the handle, but sometimes you have to wire it in at the junction block under the dash. Basically if the vehicle has a standard throttle cable/body under the hood then you'll need the complete kits. Some of the newer fords (F-150, econoline vans) all you need to do is swap the steering wheel and the clockspring (10 minute job) and have the dealer activate the cruise in the computer. The handles are just an OEM handle you can order from the dealer or ROSTRA sells them just repacked OEM handles.

this doesnt make any sense, i was under the impression the handle controls a unit "the cruise control brain" which in turn operates the cruise control function by physically pulling a throttle, and is governed by the VSS wire. 
 
So my question is this, what inthe new "drive by wire" controls the actual speed? is there some kind of factory preinstalled unit that is somehow controlled by this lever?   that wouldnt make any sense.

what does that mean? never did a pedal pull, do u mean actually attach to the pedal? sounds incorrect.
 
i just dont understand why the dealer wouldnt know about the lever deal? it makes no sense. i guess i need an education on this drive by wire system, but i think i need to see some wire codes or schematics or something

thank you for the link you just sent me, i read about your pedal pull, it is deemed unprofessional, and very dangerous, anyone installing such device should be considered reckless for potentially endangering lives.

This is the way a typical criuse control operates. On majority of vehicles with a throttle cable going from the pedal to the throttle body, this is how it works.

The drive by wire system, like most "new" technologies in vehicles, replaces a mechanical part with an electronic part. Basically the ECM or BCM etc watches the signal from the pedal and adjusts accordingly. In the cases where you can just add a handle or swap a wheel, yes everything else needed is already built into the vehicle ready to roll except for the control buttons to make it work (the handle).

Yes instead of attaching to the throttle cable under the hood at the throttle body, you attach to the back of the pedal and pull the pedal down rather than the conventional way of pulling the throttle open. Not sure what link you checked out, but of course someone trying to sell you an alternative method would consider the other method unsafe or bad in some way. Truth is pedal pulls do have their place. Some cars more so than others, but it does work and if done properly is no more dangerous than a conventional cruise control.

I believe the information pretty much bypasses the dealer to be honest. If GM could charge the dealer $600 for the option to be added, when the dealer knew they could add the option themselves for $250, would they order the vehicle with it? Probably not.. On the same level if us aftermarket guys know we can get the handles, have them installed in minutes, and mark up the price, are we going to tell the dealers how easy it is? Probably not.

Not to mention salesmen generally know VERY little about the vehicles in this respect. They know the selling points and they know they need to find a way to get something the customer wants in order for them to buy it.

Cruise for Colorado and Canyon and Malibu and Equinox are available

20 minutes install on the first one, ebven quicker after that.

Hello all,

I looked at my steering column and I don't see the wire to plug the lever into. It's a 2005 4x4 w/t Silverado. Can anyone tell me what wires are the cruise control wires going into the block? Also would GM sell this wire as an addon? Thanks!

A little late to respond, but I just now saw the post. On the silverados you have to entend the wires on the OEM handle down to the junction block @ the steering column. There are 4 wires for the handle. The power wire just goes to the pink ignition wire. The other 3 wires will be on one side of the junction block, and not on the other. If you still need more details let me know and I will post the exact pins for you.
