Audiovox ccs-100

I have been trying to get this to work for about 2 weeks now and am about ready to throw it in the nearest dumpster. I  have a 98 Ford Ranger xl with a 2.5L automatic. I have the cruise installed, it will come on (lights work) but it will not set.  All voltages check out.  I am using the tan / YELLOW wire from the large connector at the back of the engine compartment for the speed singal (is this right?) The manual says to use the pink wire here , also didnt work. The ppm is set to 8000 and tach only. I also tried changing the tach source select from ecm to coil, no effect. I have also bought another unit and swapped them out, still no go. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

If there is a speedometer in the cluster, there is a VSS signal on the truck. Try all the gray/black wires at the 104 pin connector under the hood. One of them is the one you want. You can't use a tach wire for a speed signal. Tach is used for manual transmission vehicles for the overrev protection. Since you have an automatic disconnect the tach wire completely.

still not working.  I have spent too much time on this to quit now (25 +hours)! I have found the vss sensor it is located on the rear end. It has a red with a pink wire and a black with green wire which is ground. I tried using the RED / pink wire for vss signal to no avail.   I also tried the only grey/black on the 104 pin connector as suggested above. At this point I would gladly pay someone for some help.

Position 58 @ the 104 pin connector should be gray/black, and is your VSS wire.

Disconnect your tach wire completely, check all your fuses to make sure they are good.

Check your brake wires to make sure they are not mixed up. Also check the truck and make sure none of your brake lights are out. The hot side of the brake wire needs to see 12volts. The cold side of the brake wire has to see a SOLID ground when the brake isn't being pressed.

Check the resistance between the battery and the ground on your module, and the resistance between the battery and the cold side of the brake. Anything over a few ohms and you need to run your cruise module ground straight to the battery, and possibly add a relay to the cold side of the brake. You can try running the cold side of the brake directly to ground for a test, but remember if it works the cruise WILL NOT disengage when test driving and you hit the brake so you must turn the cruise switch to the off position to disengage.

As far as settings go you want 8000 PPM. I'm not sure what other settings are on that particular module but if you post them I will tell you how to set them.

You would want vss & tach.

Shouldn't make a huge difference as far as the cruise working or not, but I would set at medium and adjust later if necessary

As per the instructions if you are using the handle supplied with the kit you want it set to normally open.

I would just leave this one set whatever it was set for. You can try hooking the tach wire back up, but I don't think it is required for operation.

The cable itself is usually pretty giving provided you don't have any 90 degree bends or anything.

Also the throttle hookup itself should have just a bit of slack, not too much and not too little. Usually this wouldn't change whether the cruise works or not, just how quickly it sets and picks up. You should be able to pull the cable by hand without much effort.

Vacuum obviously is a big part of whether the cruise is going to work or not you want to try and get the strongest vacuum source you can. With the vehicle running and your finger over the end of the vacuum line you should be able to feel the suction.

Not much else to really suggest except to double check things I've done a lot of cruises and killed myself troubleshooting only to find it was something stupid I overlooked.

You also didn't mention where you were located like I said it's possible someone on here in your area could help you out.
