Greetings from a newby, who regrets buying the CCS-100 rather than the Rostra, but I'm not giving up on my install!!

My car is a 2004 Chevy Cavalier,  5 speed manual. I've already been convinced that I don't need to hook up the VSS. Just hook up the tach signal, right?

I like to know for sure what the tach wire connections are before I start, so I purchased a Helm/GM official Cavalier service manual for my car.

Question 1): Is the VSS Tach white wire shown in the Rostra info the same as the white wire, pin 19, circuit number 423 referred to on page 6-364 of the service manual as the "IC Timing Control" on the black connector, also called PCM C2? There is another white wire on the PCM C 2 shown on the same page of the service manual as pin 34, circuit 776, "transmission range switch signal P" which I'm sure is the wrong wire. The Rostra info shows only one white wire, but per the Helm/GM info on page 6-364, there are actually two wires coming out of the black connector/ECM or PCM C2. I'm having trouble determining which white wire is which.

Question 2): Is it safe to assume that the brake + wire: orange, and brake - wire: white shown in Rostra data, are the color codes coming right out from the connector on the brake switch under the dash?

Question 3): Is there one place to get both tach and clutch "cruise control shutdown" signals on this car? If it is on the cruise control module jack for the factory cruise, does anyone know where that jack is on this car? Is it under the hood or under the dash?

Thanks in advance for any input provided, and thanks for such a great web site and forum.

Regards

1. The white tach wire is available on the top of the engine, driver's side. It will have a small silver heatsink on the ignition module. There is a white wire in the plug along with a pink one. The white is the tach. If you have the other engine the white tach wire is available at the ignition module where the plug wires terminate.
2.Yes the orange (battery) and white (switched) wires at the brake switch are the ones you need for the cruise.
3. If your car had cruise you would have a 10 pin plug on the passenger side firewall. If it never had factory cruise this plug is not in the car. It wouldn't contain the tach wire anyways.
The VSS wire can be found on the bottom side of the large connector plug at the driver's side shock tower. It is GREEN / WHITE and near the corner of the plug that is easiest to see. You can also get it at cavity 34 of the blue plug of the PCM on the firewall.
