I'm considering putting an aftermarket cruise control on a 98 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9L/V6.  I've done a little mechanicing in the past but nothing major.  Is this something I can likely do myself?  The options are, do it myself for about 100 bucks or spend 315 to have it done by someone else.  Let me know if this is something I should be able to do pretty easily.  I've got a great mechanic across the street and a father-in-law that has done a lot of auto repair in the past so my resource are pretty good.  Also, let me know what brands you recommend and where I can get them.  Thanks, Greg Thomas

Hi GT, there aren't very difficult to install. With the mechanic friends and relatives you have, you should be able to install it with a couple hours tops. I prefer to use Rostra cruise controls, but SCS makes reliable units as well.

Just don't go with the rostra 250-1176 if they still make them.  They almost always fail and surge with time.  I have changed too many of these.
