looking for a quality electric cc addon

Hello,

I recently bought a Audiovox CCS-100 from Kragen, but I'm not liking the install instructions, or the idea of having to work with the vaccum system... Which led me here again.

I have seen the name Rostra used often here, and summit has the 250-1223 kit and the add on controller for about $240. I'm just wondering would any of you know if there is a brick and mortar store that I could stroll into (major retail, etc...) to buy one? I like the idea of one that is 100% electric, even if it costs twice as much.

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 2.5l 4 banger with a manual tranny.

I need this fairly fast... if not I can order it from summit.

I apologize if my post violates the terms here, I'm just getting despirate for a good CC kit, and would rather not "red neck it" by using a small section of 550 cord.

We sell these CC units and prefer them to the Audiovox systems even though they are more expensive from our suppliers. IMHO the Rostra electric units are more reliable and have more options for tuning than the Audiovox systems that I've installed.

Maybe you can help me... I did a search on summit for the 250-1223 kit, and it popped right up, and it said it was a fit for my lil ranger... it also told me that I would need a switch, which is no biggie, either 250-3032 or 250-3592 for the control lever

HOWEVER, the Rostra site states differently?!

Now, I'm pretty confused... what is that adapter for? I would have no problem cutting and soldering the connections, if that's the reason the adapter exists... Summit has them, but it says they won't have them in until the 29th :(

The 1223 is a universal unit and the 1176 is a direct replacement for OEM ( if the OEM malfunctioned and a new unit was to be installed in it's place ). Also the 1176 is a vaccum type unit as well. If no OEM unit is to be replaced then use the 1223 instead. IMO, I would still use the 1223 over the 1176.

I'm doing this as a 100% clean install... my truck never had it. I'm gonna be getting the 1223 for sure... I'm just not 100% sure on what controller I need, and weither or not I need that adapter the Rostra website calls for. I would hate to buy the things off summit and have them be the incorrect pieces.

The controller is up to you as far as the looks go. Just make sure you get one that will work for the proper mounting location ( left or right side of steering column ) and you will be fine. The 250-3417 is just a vaccum reservoir and you won't need this if your going to be installing the electric unit.

Cool! I think I'm just gonna get the boring little flat style switch panel 250-3592... I just wish the kits were sold locally... or even semi locally. I wouldn't mind driving a little bit to get one.

FWIW, I followed Velocity Motors' suggestion and got the Rostra all electric unit and I LOVE it... easily very simple to install and worked like a champ on the entire drive! If the dude lived closer, I would buy him a round or two to say thanks!
