Hey guys, looking at building two sub enclosures 12.5"x24"x11". The enclosure will be ported and house an Alpine Type R 10" sub in each enclosure. I would like to have the top of the enclosure to be one piece of 3/4" 24"x"12.5" plexiglass. Would 3/4" be thick enough? Also any tips on drilling the mounting holes and the frequency of them? Ever 2" or so? Any input would be great. Thanks!

1" is what I would use on a peice that large. every 3" for screws, predrill with nice SHARP bit at lower speeds, to prevent melting. I almost always make a trim ring that goes around my plexi windows, so no one sees the scres, or cut edge. pre plan, remember folks will be seeing the indise of the box now, so it much be clean, painted, & no screw tips sticking out. good luck, have fun. ------------- used to be loud, used to be fast...now I am married LOL

Thanks for the advice. A couple more questions if you don't mind. There will be a trim ring around the enclosure so the screws will not be seen. Just to confirm, slow speed, and should I start with smaller bits and go larger, or can I use a 1/8" bit at the start? Also, what do you think of those special plexi bits, are those worth it? Also, what is the process for countersinking? Slow speed again? Do I need to do any drilling for the holes or countersinking in reverse? Thanks for the help guys!! Two expensive sheets I don't want to f*$k up!!!

They sell special countersink bits, not specificly for plexi, but they work fine. I have also used a larger drill bit, & just tipped it in, so the head of the screw would be flat. I usually do 2 steps, one smaller drill you can take through at higer speed, shure a little will melt, but keep an eye on it, & all the melted hould come out with the bigger slower bit. yeah, I LOVE these plexi bits. 1/8th is pretty small, so I would try things out on a scrap peice to get your confidence level up. Most custom shops have a scrap bin, just ask for a little peice, even a 3x3 peice you can make a bunch of holes in so you can get good at making them straight, & get the right drill speed. ------------- used to be loud, used to be fast...now I am married LOL
