honda civic, fiberglass dash?

Hiya ive just spent about an hour reading the forum (due to wanting to do some fabrication to my car) ive just want to ask you guys your opinions on whats the best way to achive my goal basicly. ive never worked with fibreglass or filler so will be a whole new experiance. just hope you can help

I have a honda civic type r (most you guy will know it as a SI or simialar) i have a double din headunit i was to fabricate in to the dash due to no double din be avalible for RHD.

so this is what it looks like at the moment big gaps around the edges


this is what i want to achive or similar as possible a flush look


firstly is it going to be possible and whats the best way of doing it.

ive read about drilling holes so the FG takes but as a novice im clueless

      IT can be done if you have patience. When doing custom work to achieve great results-Keep saying to yourself IF ITS NOT PERFECT ITS NOT RIGHT. I would not use fiberglass for that project. When working with plastic like your stock bezel , I would use ABS plastic .....first cut a piece of ABS to fit around the radio filling in the gaps, Remember if its not perfect its not right......when th piece is right CA glue th new trim ring to the stock bezel making sure it is flush..Next apply a little body filler on the seam where the new trim ring and the stock bezel meet. Sand the body filler down until its PERFECT .Finally sand, prep, and paint..............Good luck  

okay cool so basicly take my time and get it right.

wont the filler crack due vibration and the different heats it will experiance?

   IF you take the time to make sure the two pieces are perfectly flush when CA gluing , you will use hardly any body filler, And you will sand away 95% of it ,so cracking shouldnt be much of a future issue.........post pics when finished......good luck
