So, this is my first time fiberglassing speaker pods in a door. I am very new to fiberglassing in general. I made speaker rings and glassed them into the door panel. The door panel is already fiberglass. I used two coats of resin and fiberglass. Then I used bondo to get the contour I wanted. Sanded it down so it looks relatively good.

My question is, since I am covering the door with suade or leather upholstery, do I need to get rid of all the little pits in the finish? IF I were painting I would want it perfect, but since I am covering it, I am thinking it wont matter.

Thoughts?

You will be surprised what will show up through the leather or suede.  You may not need to have it as smooth as though you were painting it, but it still needs to be really smooth.

It will be ok not to sand out pin holes they will not show up, But your curves and raidal areas need to be really good because any flat spots or stray lumps will stick out like they had flashing lights on them. As to where

Painting them will show pin holes sanding marks. But it does not show raidal area devations as bad.
