I have a 1979 Monte Carlo and I just got the interior re-upholstered. Everything looks good, but the bottom part of the rear seat looks like it is barely connected.

The guy who upholstered it is M.I.A, and every time I people get out of the backseat, it pretty much comes off.

I know that there are two metal slots, and clips in the front of the seats, but nothing secures them in the back.

I know that this probably isn't the best site to get an answer to this question, but I've gotten help in the past.

why not just take it to another shop and have them fix the bottom cushion??

Because I am trying to save money anywhere I can on this car. I don't want to take the car to a shop and have them charge me to fix it when I can do it myself.

I just don't understand why it is not hooking into place. I mean, I can understand the seat being fairly loose, but this seat is extremely loose.

If anyone has worked on these style of older cars before, I would really appreciate some help.

well my first question is... what isnt sticking? the upholstery work or the seat itself...

If it is coming out everytime people get in and out (and your refering to the seat itself) take a moment to look it over.  find the 2 parts that are supposed to be connected and figure out what is not happening...

Most cars are made to be easily assembled and pretty easily disassembled. seats are usually straight forward once you understand what the parts are supposed to do.  IF you figure it out, fix it.  If you cant figure it out, post some photos and we'll try to help you understand whats not happening, or what to do to fix it.

If your refering to the upholstery itself, either take some photos of the problem, so we can all get a good idea of whats going on, or you gonna have to take it to a shop to fix it.

Back to the seat.  The oldest car i have worked on is a 90, so im not sure the mechanism, but they were pretty much the same.  you either have a rod in the seat, that hooks into a bracket in the floor. (these you set the seat in place, and squeeze the seat back until that rod goes into the bracket, or as i have seen in newer cars, 2 vertical posts snap into 2 recieving holes in the floor, snapping into place.  This one is very straightforward, so i doubt its this.

nothing amazing yet, but its coming
